About North York Iron

For over 65 years, North York Iron has been supplying steel to businesses and individuals throughout Canada. Founded in the 1950s by Alec Rotman and Al Tobe, North York Iron began mostly selling scrap metal.

In 1966, Art Tobe became a partner in this young steel supply business.

In 1970, North York Iron moved the company to its current location and the business model changed from dealing mostly in scrap metal to include new steel products and a wide range of steel related services.

Another change took place in 1986 when the steel supply company name was changed to North York Iron.

Today the face of North York Iron contains many family members who grew up in the steel supply business. This has resulted in a strong team of employees with years of combined experience available to answer any questions you may have about steel.

With a proud tradition of one-on-one service and an unmatched commitment to excellence in steel product, North York Iron has the complete package for your steel supply needs.

Today, Art Tobe can still be found in our steel yard overseeing our big projects. Neil Tobe has been running the front office of North York Iron for over 30 years. Shale Tobe soon joined him after graduating Queen's University in 1986.

Neil and Shale Tobe currently own and operate the steel supply company.
